| VANDOLPH: Growing up Quizon |
|
|
|
|
|
|

|

 |
"
Ever
since
bata
pa
ako,
bibo
na
ako.
Nahilig
na
akong
magpatawa,
mag-explore.
It
has
always
been
like
that
growing
up
beside
my
Dad." |

Those
of
us
who
grew
up
watching
“Loveliness,”
the
musical
variety
show
that
starred
Alma
Moreno,
and
“Home
Along
Da
Riles”
with
Philippines’
Comedy
King
Dolphy
may
be
surprised
at
how
fast
Vandolph,
has
grown.
Vandolph
was
the
cute
little
boy
who
played
on
the
set
of
“Loveliness”
and
“Home
Along…”
Vandolph
is
now
a
young
man
who
has
gone
through
plenty
of
challenges.
“Eighteen
years
na
ako
sa
showbiz,”
says
Vandolph
who
is
now
20.
“Buong
buhay
ko
sa
showbiz
na.”
He
then
proceeds
to
enumerate
the
numerous
films
he’s
done
with
his
dad,
Dolphy:
Enteng
the
Dragon,
Balimbing,
Espadang
Patpat,
Aringkingking,
Father
and
Son,
Home
Along
Da
Movie
1 &
2,
and
Home
Along
Da
Riber.
These
days,
Vandolph
is
also
in “Quizon
Avenue,”
the
new
comedy
show
of
his
dad.
Vandolph
co-stars
with
brothers
Eric
and
Epy.
He
says,
“Blessed
ako
kasi
siyempre
maraming
taong
gustong
makatrabaho
si
Dolphy
at
madalas
ko
na
siyang
nakatrabaho.
He’s
my
mentor
for
acting
in
our
business.”
Dolphy
is
not
only
a
father
and
a
teacher
for
Vandolph,
but
also
a
model,
especially
when
it
comes
to
making
people
laugh.
Vandolph
says
that
it
has
come
to a
point
that
comedy
has
become
second
nature
to
him.
“Ever
since
bata
pa
ako,
bibo
na
ako.
Mahilig
na
akong
magpatawa,
mag-explore.
It
has
always
been
like
that
growing
up
beside
my
Dad.”
When
he’s
out
with
friends
or
family
members
and
the
situation
turns
quiet
and
serious,
Vandolph
says
he
feels
very
uncomfortable.
“Gusto
kong
mag-start
ng
spark
para
naman
masaya!”
Like
his
celebrated
father,
Vandolph
has
gotten
his
share
of
headline-grabbing
experiences.
The
latest
of
which
was
an
incident
wherein
he
allegedly
tried
to
drown
current
girlfriend
Jenny
because
of
jealousy.
Vandolph
and
Jenny
have
appeared
on
TV
to
deny
the
rumor
and
even
expressed
their
plan
to
get
married.
Quizon-watchers
and
the
general
public
certainly
remember
Vandolph’s
accident,
the
one
that
happened
up
north
late
2001.
This
mishap
resulted
in
the
death
of
Vandolph’s
sweetheart
Ishi
and
serious
injuries
to
the
former
child
star.
Tragic
as
those
events
were,
Vandolph
has
left
painful
memories
behind
him.
“There’s
this
saying
that
if
you
live
in
the
past,
you
stay
in
the
past
and
you
don’t
grow,”
he
explains.
True
to
being
a
Quizon,
Vandolph
describes
those
as
his
“action
star”
days.
He
quips,
“I
did
a
lot
of
death-defying
stunts.”
Turning
serious,
Vandolph
says
he
has
learned
from
his
mistakes.
“Ang
mga
pagsubok
ng
Diyos,
kailangan
natin
ang
mga
’yun
para
matuto.”
Vandolph
suffered
major
injuries
in
his
legs
because
of
the
accident
in
2001.
Right
after,
he
could
barely
walk.
“Pero
pagkatapos
ng
tatlong
buwan,
naglalakad
na
ako
kasi
ginusto
ko.”
For
Vandolph,
no
challenge
is
too
big
to
overcome.
He
offers
these
words
to
those
like
him
who
have
gone
through
a
difficult
experience
and
who
want
to
make
a
fresh
start:
“Lahat
ng
gusto
mo,
magagawa
mo
dahil
nandiyan
ang
mga
mahal
mo
sa
buhay.
Lalo
na
ang
Diyos,
nandiyan
Siya
lagi.
Believe
in
yourself
na
kaya
mo.”
Aside
from
focusing
his
efforts
on
“Quizon
Avenue”
(“Apelyido
namin
ang
daladala
ng
show.
Dapat
karirin!”),
Vandolph
plans
to
go
back
to
school.
“Either
La
Salle
or
College
of
Saint
Benilde.”
We
wish
you
good
luck
and
God
bless
you,
Vandolph!
