Karel Marquez is definitely one of the prettiest faces today. And busiest, too. This daughter of singer Pinky Marquez is really making head turns not only because of her beauty but also because of her loads of talents. She can sing, dance, host and act. Projectwise, she has lots of them – hosting for ABS-CBN’s music channel MYX, a few endorsements and a new show, Qpids where she leads the pack of teens in search for a perfect love team.

Given a choice, Karel would like to be paired off with either Carlo Aquino, Gabb Drilon and John Wayne Sace. “Yong iba doon, friends ko na, nakapartner ko na. I’ve worked with Carlo and Mike Alcueza sa Berks dati. Close friend ko naman si Gabb,” she explains. But she admits to having a big crush on Jericho Rosales. “Iyon ang ideal love team ko sana. Kung may age na parang young Jericho, ganoon daw eh, bagay daw sa akin. Medyo manly siya na moreno. Ako naman ‘yong medyo sweet daw. Si Piolo (Pascual) naman, crush ko siya dahil superbait niya.”

With her career as a solo artist going great, why on earth did she agree to be part of a show with lots of teens as competitors? She retorted intelligently, “Na-realize ko, nowadays, na ‘yong mga top teen celebrities mas sumisikat kapag nagkakaloveteam. In my case, nagsosolo ako, pero maybe it would work for me sa acting kung magkaroon muna ako ng love team dahil wala pa ever since. Kasi ang role ko before may kontrabida, may weird na role, bestfriend ni ganyan, pero not as a love team. Wala pang dramang nangyari.”

When our conversation veered on her ideal guy, Karel almost turned mushy. She said she wants somebody who’s not only nice. “Gusto ko siyempre‘ yong marunong umintindi sa akin especially sa work ko. I also like ‘yong mga nakakatawa, may sense of humor at hindi ‘yong mga usual artista or ‘yong mga guys na bolero. Gusto ko ‘yong totoong tao talaga.” “Does Ronian Poe fit her requirements,” we asked her because it has been rumored that she and the son of the late actor Fernando Poe Jr., are playing sweet music together. There were talks that Ronian is a frequent visitor in their residence. “Kabarkada ko po siya. We go out. Iba po yata nililigawan niya. Umaalis kami mga once a month, mga thrice a week,” she honestly revealed. “We’ve known each other mga two years na. Nag-start yata ‘yong issue na kami daw last year kasi last year siya nagpakita sa TV. As a barkada, nagkukuwentuhan lang kami,” she adds. And as a friend, Karel lavished Ronian with praises. “Sobrang God-fearing siya. Wala siyang masamang sinasabi. Kahit na marami siyang naririnig, para siyang daddy niya. He’s very malambing to everyone.”

And what about Lucky Manzano who, like Ronian, is also said to be squiring on her? “Super, super good friends kami. We call each other...kahapon lang. We check each other na, hoy what’s up na. He’s happy naman right now. But I admit na nanligaw siya sa akin before,” she said. So, did they become a couple? “Hindi naman sa hindi ko siya sinagot, pero siguro we’re better off muna now as what we are now. Like siya, ang dami niyang crush like si Toni (Gonzaga) so I’m happy for him. Hindi naman siya basted. Parang ang nangyari na lang is friends na lang siguro. Much better. Nagkakasundo kami‘pag friends na lang, pero I know everything about him.”

Does it mean that he doesn’t like Edu Manzano and Vilma Santos’ son? “Hindi naman sa hindi ko siya type. He’s really a nice guy, one of my favorite guy na friend. Siguro, sobrang mapili ako pag boyfriend eh.”

Karel says she is enjoying her youth now and what occupies much of her time is work, work, work. She admits she had a boyfriend once and the relationship went on for about a year until one thing happened and they broke up. To keep Karel fit, she goes wake boarding as she loves water sports so much. This must be the reason why she was tanned when I interviewed her.

And oh, yes, the young star is also aware of her sex video which has been circulating for months now. She admits that she was very hurt and that she cried for days when she finally saw it. “First of all, hindi ako ‘yon. Hindi ako makapaniwala. Ba’t ako ‘yong pinagtritripan, pinag-iinitan. Sabagay, showbiz naman ako, ganon naman talaga. Medyo nagulat ako,” she said. Fortunately, the sex video issue didn’t have any effect at all in her various endorsements. “No naman. They just talked to me before. Nakita rin naman nila...siyempre they want proof na hindi ako. They know naman na I’m not that kind of person. A bright girl, the future even looks brighter for this young lass because she is very talented like her mom. And what’s nice about Karel is her disposition in life. She is very positive. Whattagirl!
