GEOFF EIGENMANN:
New Kid in the Hearthrob Block

He is now considered the new “Crush ng Bayan”. He is “Harry” or “Andrew” whichever way you want to remember him in the hit ABS-CBN soap “Hiram”. He is from the acclaimed family of artists the Eigenmanns, and lucky enough to have Gina Alajar for a mom and Michael de Mesa for a dad. But he need no other superlatives or attributions, because the showbiz world simply knows him as Geoff Eigenmann, the new kid in the heartthrob block.

“I am very flattered, of course, to be called Crush ng Bayan, as they say…I never thought I’d be one considering that I was pretty huge before. I was 220 pounds then,” says the 20-year old matinee idol.

He was “Crush ng Bayan” overnight since his Globe telecom commercial started to hit the boob tube essaying a fresh face, asking for a place to load his cellphone, and getting that popular Ilokano response “dyakmawatan” (which means I don’t understand).

“Commercials are fun, specially that Globe in Baguio thing. I still do TV commercials until now. The difference lang, TV commercial is more fast-paced and paulit-ulit, so just have to be patient.”

Coming from a showbiz clan, Geoff braved all the expectation and ended up proving that he can make a name for himself this early in his career.

“I get support by being with my family. They’re the ones that know me best, so when I am doing something wrong they’re the ones who tell me first. Their support and guidance makes me even more confident to face the challenges ahead. “He gets tons of support and criticism at the same time from her award winning actress/mom Gina Alajar.”

“She’s been great. As my biggest critic, she’s usually the first to judge what I do. She tells me all my mistakes and everything I do right. Lahat detalyado, plus the workshops I did with her before really helped a lot. I wouldn’t know how I’d be doing without her help.”

His family also gives him pieces of advice especially in dealing with people to survive in this vicious showbiz world.

“For me, the most important pointer and lesson I learned from my dad and mom is their advice to always keep my feet on the ground. Wag lalaki ang ulo, and lastly, just be nice to everyone. What you give is what you get.”

He stressed that this showbiz family is ever supportive even to his brothers Ryan and AJ and cousins Gabby, Ira and Sid Lucero who are all in showbiz.

“There is no room for competition and insecurities among us. Everything’s still the same between all of us. Walang lamangan because we’re all doing the same thing…it just came at our own time.”

His biggest break undoubtedly after that Globe commercial is the soap opera “Hiram” where he became the object of a searing love triangle, torn between two lovely ladies Heart Evangelista and Anne Curtis.

“Everything we did in the soap was a different experience. Everyday there was something new happening. Being able to work with the cast, crew and directors was such a great experience.”

In that soap, Geoff’s acting talent was put to the test especially when he had to wear prosthetics on his face for long hours.

“The prosthetics really helped a lot in acting out my role. It really made me feel that I was “different”, and that I really had something to be insecure about.”

Save for the prosthetics, it was smooth sailing for Geoff in “Hiram” especially with his team up with Heart Evangelista (who plays Margaret in the soap).

“Working with Heart is great. She’s someone you’ll never have a boring time with. We’re close friends lang talaga,” Geoff explains.

Geoff added that Heart is very much endeared with animals, and he liked her more because of that. “When we were at remote locations and there are stray dogs, she always gives them food. I have dogs as well, that’s why I like that in her.”

The other side of the triangle involves Geoff and the fiery Anne Curtis that for a while even had a bigger following than the Geoff-Heart tandem.

“Anne and I have been friends for a long time. That’s why we were comfortable with each other. And our story in the soap was more on the fun and laughter side of being in a relationship, rather than the tears and sadness. Anne may look bitchy or masungit, but if you get to know her really well, she’s the total opposite. She is someone you can really count on to be by your side.”

What about the popular “Prince Chubby” terms of endearment?

“Oh yeah…when Anne and I were together during the story, people on the set were saying I was gaining a little weight, and they were teasing me about it. Then one day these words just showed up on the script… ‘Prince Chubby’”

With the success of the movie BCUZ of U, Star Cinema is planning to launch the Geoff-Heart-anne triangle on the big screen soon. “Yes, we have a movie coming up and all the three of us are in it. It is going to be a different movie, but of course it will be something the audience will enjoy.” Geoff is also a VJ for MYX and a regular in Channel 2’s ASAP Fanatic. Besides Globe Telecom, he is also the newest Human apparel endorser.

It seems that the road is all clear for success for Geoff Eigenmann. Whatever and wherever his path may lead him, he is sure to get there. “I know there will be a lot of trials and obstacles along the way, but I believe that if a person keeps on doing what he loves to do with passion and faith, everything will pay off. Jut be patient.” He concluded with a smile. DP
