DAWN ZULUETA:

                             The long wait is over

There’s a glint of happiness in Dawn Zulueta’s eyes these days. This is because she’s expecting a baby, her first since she got married eight years ago to Anton Lagdameo. The wedding, held in Hong Kong, was attended by Dawn and Anton’s family and closest friends. Getting pregnant is Dawn’s most-awaited moment. And now that she is, she is not about to take any chances and would do anything to keep her baby.

“At long last, nabuntis rin ako. We’ve waited for this for so long. Sa wakas, dumating rin,” she said in a group interview for her latest work on television, “Encantadia” where she plays Ynang Reyna, mother to Karylle, Sunshine Dizon, Iza Calzado and Diana Zubiri. The actress is five weeks pregnant. At Encantadia’s presscon held at the old Mariwasa warehouse which GMA 7 turned into a multi-million studio, Dawn was immediately swarmed by the entertainment media.

She’s still a star. Although she’s very excited to announce her pregnancy as soon as she was told about it by her doctor, Dawn controlled herself. “In as much as it is a happy news, I didn’t want to announce it just yet because I wanted to make sure na talagang pregnant ako. Talagang nagpa-check up ako,” she said. And since she was already doing Encantadia when she heard the good news from her doctor, the actress politely told GMA executives about her condition. “I’m almost done na with my scenes. We already taped ahead of time. I would probably comeback if GMA still wants me,” she assured us. The baby was conceived in the US. And this early, the actress admits she is still far from having some cravings like normal would-be-mothers. The early months of pregnancy, Dawn learned, is the most delicate that’s why she’s taking precautions.

“It’s a bit difficult this pregnancy because as I discovered in the last three weeks nang magpa-bloodtest ako, and I happen to have immune problems. Parang ang nangyayari, yung mga immune cells mo attack the embryos and that’s very dangerous,” shares the actress. Dawn admits she’s under treatment now because of her situation. “I have injections in the stomach everyday. May injection rin ako sa buttocks everyday. It’s difficult kasi masakit ang katawan ko. I will have to do this everyday, hanggang nine months,” she continued. As a couple, Dawn and Anton did not lose hope about having a baby. “Hindi naman. We’re actually relaxed about it. If it comes, it comes. And it did.” And now that she’s infanticipating, Dawn and her husband couldn’t care less about the gender of their baby. “As long as it is healthy, okay lang,” Dawn intoned.
